When they got to high point where rib meets the face at 1 pm, Williams decided to turn back due to bad snow conditions. They also did not have enough rope to fix. They descended to C3, arrived at 3:30 pm. On 24 May Hesser descended to BC. Williams and Leonard spent night at C1.
