| Route Notes | See expedition operator's blog at http://www.hionlife.se/aktuellt/ (in Swedish) Google translation of last entries: Hi On Life put first Swedish flag on Putha Hiunchuli! 2012-09-29 This morning, at 11:15 Joakim Anderson, Sonam Lepcha, Lhakpa Sherpa Wangel and Rinjen Sherpa reached the top of Putha Hiunchuli, the entire 7246 meters above sea level. Incredibly strong done! The weather had apparently been good and the climb fine. Unfortunately, it was Magnus had to turn down to base camp yesterday when the others went up to Camp 3 due to health. My stomach did not really want to be on the high altitude. Putha Hiunchuli Expedition Dispatch #13 2012-09-26 Today, we have once again been in contact with the expedition. Since we heard of them last, they have worked to acclimate. On September 24, they went up to Camp 1 where they slept overnight. On the 25th , they went on to Camp 2 is located at 6180 meters, just because after a couple of hours there, return to Camp 1 again - which is the best way to acclimate to - "walk high sleep low". In normal circumstances, they will use only Camp 1 as an overnight camp during the climb, which means that the climbers have to go down all the way to base camp to rest properly. Then Camp 1 only located at 5400 meters so our team has decided to move up the base camp there. Kitchen tents and cooking equipment has been sustained and we have staffed our new basecamp with our chef Nir and a kitchen helper. Anything to let our athletes must avoid going down all the way to the "real" base camp. This is estimated as clear of both Magnus and Joakim. After climbing up to Camp 2 was hit Magnus again from stomach problems and it was a tough day for him. It's a challenging day, even if you were healthy, as during the climb up to camp two have time to harvest next 800 meters of altitude. Today, the group has a rest day in Camp 1. They now need to take it easy to gather strength for the coming days and in the meantime they rest and eat and drink all they can so they acclimate themselves best. Tomorrow it's off to Camp 2 again! According to the weather reports as the weather looks good for a summit push the next few days, so if they feel good and feel ready so this could possibly be the last tour up! Keep your fingers crossed! Putha Hiunchuli Expedition Dispatch #11 2012-09-22 The climb has begun! Camp 1 at 5400 meters altitude has been established and our group has been on a ride up to the camp to acclimatise and have already returned to base camp. In Camp 1 are now some sleeping tent, a small kitchen tents, food and fuel. They reached the camp shortly before 13:00 and stayed for a while to let your body feel the altitude. 14:30, they were back in base camp. Magnus felt sadly not better this morning and continued on its course of antibiotics. Sonam therefore complemented with antibiotics Tinidazole. The weather was glorious and it has kept Magnus in good spirits throughout the day. This evening, Magnus has begun to feel better - it seems that medicine has taken effect! |
