Route Notes Messner said that in the late summer of 1971 he was the leader of a trekking group in the Annapurna-Tilicho area. The group consisted of 30 members from Italy's South Tirol, like himself. Arrangements in Kathmandu were handled by Bepe Tenti, who was very active in those days. Some of the members joined him in August 1971 on the NE Spur of Tilicho, but they got no higher than 6000m on the spur. He himself continued up the spur to the North Ridge and followed the ridge to the summit. This was the first ascent of Tilicho. In April 2010 he remembered no other details, but in one of his books, which has not been translated into English but its title in German means "All My Mountains," he notes this ascent (without details).
