Route Notes Had planned to go from Jomsom to Kagbeni but decided to take easier route to Marpha, south of Jomsom and thence through Dhaulagiri's Hidden Valley instead. So much snow ahead from Marpha north, they took few porters and light loads now to climb Thapa Peak (Dhampus Peak). Made BC on the 12 Nov east of Thapa Pass, scaled Dhampus Peak 14 Nov. Summit bid made by all members except Chesnel (who did not want to go up). Left camp at 9:00 am just walking to top, which reached by Adoult, Grobel and Naude at 3:00 pm and back to camp 5:00-7:00 pm. Slow descent because of knee-deep snow. On 15th left BC for Marpha. Then hoped to go north and west to Sanga village and explore that area and see what peak might be interesting to attempt. But because of deep snow, porters refused to cross Sanga Pass, so party returned without crossing pass and climbing idea abandoned. Chavy left expedition 19 Nov to return to France.
