Route Notes The four-man team left Kathmandu on 9 May by bus to Surkhet and from there flew to Simikot the next day. They trekked south to their mountain, which is southwest of Saipal. Their intended climbing route was the North Face. They reached BC but no higher. The mountain looked too difficult for them, and they had a shortage of food, since they had been unable to buy supplies, as they had planned, at Simikot because the region was suffering from a food shortage. It was unexpectedly very hot, and Ohnishi had developed a stomach problem. They abandoned any idea of climbing the mountain and returned to Kathmandu, on foot to Simikot, plane to Nepalgunj and another plane to Kathmandu, where they arrived on 7 June; they left Nepal on 9 June, a nearly two months earlier than expected monthly earlier than expected.
