Route Notes BC towards SE corner of big lake ABC at bottom of ridge pillar in southeast side (pillar that ends at snow plateau) C1 at top of this ridge High point at East Ridge. Many crevasses between C1 and C2 and around C2. Yanagihara stayed in BC with balloon communications. C1 slow to make because French had a lot equipment for skiing and parapente. Tardivel tried to go top but no cooperation from Sherpa, so no one to take his photograph on summit, which was very important for a professional. Tardivel and Robert planned to go up on 11th May after Tardivel had 2 day's rest at BC, but now balloon over Everest had crashed in Tibet on 9th. Balloon photography was main aim of expedition and leader in KTM ordered team to leave mtn. Tardivel's mind was entirely on his skies and parapente and did not cooperate about balloon filming. Iwa-to-Yuki Annual claims that Catherine Tardivel (31) was part of the team as a guide.
Accidents Nothing serious; Hatano who didn't feel well from altitude used 1 bottle of oxygen at high BC only
