Route Notes Seven Summit Treks Manaslu expedition was a combination of several independent teams (1-2 climbers each). Seven Summits provided transportation, base camp facilities and various levels of high altitude support (oxygen, high-altitude porters, tents, etc) as required and contracted for by each team. The individual accounts for each team are given below: Sergi Mingote Moreno (Spain) Appr: Trekked via Larkya La Camps: BC(14/09,4800m),C1(16/09,5700m),C2(17/09,6200m),C3(24/09,6700m),Smt(25/09) Left: 30/09 from BC Hired: 0 Term: Success on 25/09 at 2:20 pm Mingote climbed with the 3-4 Sherpa rope-fixing team, Moeses Fiamoncini and Temba Bhote (with Fiamoncini). Good weather and low wind. Their ascent was the first of the season. The snow was very deep and rope was fixed at some points. Nobody else climbed until the 27 May. Mingote's ascent was without oxygen; the others used oxygen. Oxygen: Not used by Mingote Jordi Bosch (Spain) Francisco Javier Goni (Spain) Appr: Trekked via Larkya La Camps: BC(14/09,4800m),C1(16/09,5800m),xxx Left: 10/01 brom BC Hired: 0 Term: Abandoned due to over-crowding on the route Monika Witkowska (Poland) Joanna Kozanecha (Poland) Appr: Trekked via Larkya La Camps: BC(14/09,4900m),C1(16/09,5700m),C2(17/09,6300m),C3(26/09,6700m), C4(27/09,7400m),Smt(28/09) Left: 01/10 from BC Hired: 1 Term: Success on 28/09 by Witkowska, Kozanecha and Phurba Sherpa Phurba arranged high camps, but didn't lead the members to the summit. Members started at 2:30 am from C4, reached summit around 11 am. Purba summitted one hour later. Good weather, many people on the trail. They had to wait in the queue before the summit for about 30 minutes, then descended to C4, had food, and continued to C3 for the night. Reached C3 at about 6 pm. One incident occurred when the members at the same time ran out of oxygen on the summit. Phurba was carrying spare bottles, but he was way behind them. He should have been with them, but he was too slow. He was supposed to use oxygen ,but didn't. They eventually borrowed another bottle from another Sherpa and shared the bottle between them. When they met Phurba on the descent, they got their spare oxygen bottles. Busy summit, many people. Oxygen: Taken and used by members from C4 to summit and down to C4. Sherpa: Phurba Magdalena Poniatowska (Poland) Appr: Trekked via Larkya La Camps: BC(14/09,4800m),C1(16/09,5700m),C2(18/09,6200m),C3(19/09,6700m), C4(27/09,7400m),xxx(28/09,7600m) Left: 29/09 from BC Hired: 0 Term: Abandoned at 7600m due to low oxygen saturation (43%), hallucinations Poniatowska started at 3 am for the summit from C4, reached her high point at 7600m at 4:30 am. She felt okay, but suffered from hallucinations and low oxygen saturation in her blood. She was alone and decided to abandon the climb. She descended to C4, slept there for 6 hours and continued to C1 on the same day, where she arrived at 6 pm.
