Route Notes BC at Lirung Glacier moraine on west side of Glacier (higher than normal site) C1 at top of a couloir on east side of SE Ridge 20m below ridge under big stone C2 at SE Ridge C3 at SE Ridge. C1 site well sheltered from snowfall but very small place where only two people can stay. C2 occupied one night but place but next day when all members down in BC this tent and C2 tent destroyed by wind. Started climb up from BC when weather good again 13 Dec, stayed at C2 which actually "half broken" (torn and pole broken - tent could be used by four people instead of intended seven). 14th to summit: had not expected to sleep in C3 because assumed it destroyed by wind & know would have to climb to top from C2; had studied earlier expedition's reports and knew it was possible to go direct from C2 to top. Left C2 at 3 am and reached top 3:25 pm and returned to C2 7:30 pm (in dark) after having gathered up item from C3. On 15th returned to BC. 16th Dec from C2 second attack reached 250m below top and then turned back when strong winds prevented them from staying up; Ezaki, Kudo, Ito and Man Bahadur Gurung in this party. Route was difficult this Dec because autumn's snow had been blown away or frozen, so were climbing on ice or rock in strong wind. Most of route fixed.
Accidents 2 members temporary altitude sickness (Ezaki was one)
