Route Notes BC at Kyanjin Gompa. The team reached the mountain from the west, trekking eastward along the Langtang Khola to Kyanjin Gompa, where they made their BC on 13 October. On the 15th, the two members went north on the west side of the Lirung Glacier to Sangbu, which is just a yak herders hut near the moraine, and here they made ABC at 4150m in order to examine the East Face, which they wanted to try to climb. Using a telescope, they spent the day searching for a suitable route up one of the many ribs on the face. What they found on all the ribs was a large number of seracs, which were standing, and falling rocks, which were falling onto seracs. On 16 October, they returned to BC and spent the day discussing what to do now; the face was too dangerous to attempt. Since they were not interested in climbing the normal route on the SE Ridge, they decided to leave the mountain altogether. Manome remarked that this was shortest expedition he had ever been on.
