Route Notes BC west of mountain on grass C1 at start of glacier C2 on snow covered West Ridge C3 on West Ridge C4 on West Ridge. Some problem with snow, so Grobel made track by wearing snowshoes; "I think without snow shoes we don't go up." Snow a problem just to C3. BC too low; better to make it higher at 4900m near small lake left by retreating glacier. On 13 Oct Grobel and all other 16 Oct summiters except De Boysson, Phurba and Mingma had tried for top from C3 but deep snow made climbers too tired, so 1 hour below top, turned back to C3 and then made another C4. Route "too easy" to fix rope but "for comfort" fixed 20m rope between C2 and C3. Stayed on top from 12:30 to 1:30 pm together.
