Route Notes BC at normal site (same as Japanese NE Ridge team) C1 near NE Col (before Col reached) C2 on NE Ridge (reached by all members 7 Oct) xxx at C2 site. After BC established, 10 days bad weather (15-24 Sept); much snow fall (1m) so conditions very bad with big avalanches. 7th Oct decided not to try E Face because very dangerous from avalanches, so started up NE Ridge and made C2 at 6600m but did not sleep there. 8th Oct again bad weather (snow) so all down to BC. Stayed in BC 2 days and then 11th Oct 5 members to C1 while Watanabe stayed at BC because very tired. 12th Oct more snow and all again in BC. Hirofumi and Masaki stayed on at mountain but others decided on 12th Oct to leave because of constant danger from snowfall. Watanabe left BC 12th Oct while others 3 others stayed at BC 4 more days and reported Hirofumi and Masaki returned to C2 15th Oct. All members reached C2 site on 7th Oct. No accidents up to 16th Oct, when most had left BC. 4th Nov Masaki and Hirofumi, who stayed on at Dhaulagiri, have now returned in good health but did not go above C1 after 15th Oct.
