Route Notes BC same as Juanito's expedition C2 no camp pitched High point at normal C2 site on West Face. C2 never slept in - rope fixed to site but no tent pitched. Went there to see rubbish situation and clean C2 site. Further up route lot of ice above and since mountain was very "dry." Crevasses had opened wide and seracs were dangerous above. When first arrived was snow but this melted and by end of expedition rock exposed and made climbing difficult between C1 and C2. Fixed rope from below exposed rock at 5100m to 5400m. 23 and 24 April went up to C2 to clear old and their own fixed ropes. Rest of mountain looked quite clean. Very difficult to dig out from ice all rubbish at C1 and took much time. 1000 kg of trash from mountain and BC total. From BC area C1 and C2 - all this: batteries, plastic, cans, glass bottles. All items that could be burned were burned below BC. 1000 kg being taken to Spain. Went to use some of it to build memorial to 1974 expedition but no funds for this yet. Garcia did not want any members to attempt summit because the effort would mean spending energy on climbing and not cleaning up, would distract them from expeditions's purpose and would create more rubbish to be removed. Did not want climbing to appear to be an excuse for going to mountain.
