Route Notes Too much ice to climb West Face. Went up N Face via route of Koreans this spring, essentially German's 1980 route for middle summit. 14th May Georges and sirdar climbed from BC to normal C2 site at 5800m in 5 hours; pitched tent at 1:00 pm, stayed 4 hrs, then Georges went up alone (no one else on mountain and sirdar stayed in tent). 17 hours to ascend 2300m to top and 7 hours down to tent. Walked all night in deep snow; same places Koreans rope broken. Well acclimatized from Dhaulagiri. Descended in cloud and lost his way sometimes. Snowed 15th afternoon and everyday afterwards. Returned to C1 at 6:00 pm of 15th and BC 8:00 am 16th. In June 1996 to Makalu; "maybe" trying for all 8000ers.
