Route Notes BC at 4250m at normal site for N Face climb C1 at 4800m below normal C1 site (because of much snow) C2 below Dutch Rib C3 at 6800m on French route below cycle High point on North Face. 1st tried Dutch Rib for 3 days on left side of rib, but end of rib very difficult and went over to French classical route. At base of rib at 6100m above C2 put temporary camp for climbing rib. Day after C3 reached by 3 members, Ferrer decided to descend because of bad altitude sickness during night and between C2 and C3 he fell 300m while descending alone. People in C2 waited for him; in C1 people saw how he stopped after fall, but no one saw his fall. When did not reach C2 members in C3 came down and found him unconscious and brought him to C2 where doctor was and where there was O2 but he died of fractured skull. Climb abandoned: 2 members went clear C3 while others brought down body. On 23rd Maldonado and Villa turned back when were asked by walkie-talkie to see what happened to Ferrer. Would have reached top making C4 on 23rd and C5 on 24th on the way. All difficulties had been surmounted. Ferrer was actually likeliest to have reached summit.
Accidents Ferrer 300m fatal fall
