| Route Notes | BC at north end of South Annapurna Glacier C1 at bottom of face. High point at bottom of face. Three members went up the Bonington route to acclimatize before the team attempted to pioneer a new route east of it in an alpine-style ascent. From ABC, Jin and Shin reached 6100m on 12 April and returned to BC on the 13th. Kang had been with Jin and Shin to 5600m, where he was hit on the knee by a falling stone, which cut skin and muscle. He was evacuated by helicopter to Kathmandu and was to have an operation in South Korea. This was all the climbing the expedition did. Every day in the afternoon, week and after week, fresh snow fell, and they finally abandoned any idea of climbing the mountain. They had arrived at BC on 29 March; they left on 15 May. Park wants to return in the autumn to make a serious attempt on his proposed new line up the South Face. |
