Route Notes Annapurna I Czech-Slovakian Expedition -14 May 2008 led by Roman Langr The team had originally planned to climb Everest from Tibet. But they learned when they arrived in Kathmandu that Tibet was definitely closed to climbers until the Olympic torch had reached the summit in May, so they decided to go to Annapurna I instead. The Slovakian army Annapurna I team led by Jan Matlak was already on the mountain. The two men in Kathmandu talked with Matlak by satellite phone, and it was agreed that Langr and his teammate Miroslav Mrava could join the army team, share tents, food, etc. and climb together. Langr and Mrava reached BC on 22 April. They moved up the mountain rapidly; they had no problem about acclimatizing quickly. They were in ABC on 24 April and went together to C1 on the 28th. But now Mrava had a painful knee -- it was not a serious condition, but instead of going higher, he retreated to ABC on th 29th. On the 29th Langr joined army members in moving up, reached the high point of 6700m with them, returned to C2 with them, and all descended to BC on 1 May. For further details, see report on Matlak's Slovakian army expedition.
