Route Notes Imai, et al - 17 Aug 77 Expedition cancelled. Kobayashi's (ribs) chest injured but not broken or fractured. Bus took curves fast on hairpin curves. Asking today JAC if Inoue's parents coming to KTM. Body to be held for parents and 3 members wait for answer. Bus stopped for team's lunch and then they walked towards [Trisuli] river. Bus came to pick them up and came down curve at very high speed. I ran but Inoue hit and knocked him 30m to rocky side of river; died on way to KTM of massive internal injuries. Kobayashi hit by baggage on top of bus. Driver said brakes failed but factor may be heavy baggage on top and no passengers. Accident 2:15 pm. Reached hospital 6:25 pm by public bus. 2 Sherpas and Sato & Kobayashi hurt. In bus were: 4 expedition Japanese 1 trekking Japanese 4 expedition Sherpas including mailrunner and cook 1 LO 7 assistants to trekking Japanese Imai & Sato - 14 Aug 77 Leave KTM 16 Aug by bus to Pokhara. Pokhara -> BC 17-27 Sept BC 4300-4600m, C4 6600m Summit 5-10 Oct. Route via NE Face. New route - very difficult: steep ice face, hence need for 4 camps 2 summit teams of 2 men each 2 Sherpas - can go to C4 but not summit. No doctor on team Sato to fly strong kite from top.
