| Route Notes | BC southwest of Thapa Pass C1 on west side of the wide North Ridge C2 at plateau at start of sharper ridge high point at 6700 m at C2 site. The two-member team went from Kathmandu by road from Pokhara to Beni and Darbung on the Myagdi khola, trekked north along the Myagdi through Bagora, Dobang, and around the west side of Dhaulagiri I via Pakabon, the Chhonbarang Glacier and Dhaulagiri BC, then northeast over French Pass to BC, which was southeast of Dhampus Pass. They found that their entire North Ridge route was covered in snow. They placed C1 on the west face of the wide North Ridge. C2 was sited at 6350m on a small plateau south of a small summit on the ridge and at the beginning of the ridge's narrowness, but it was never occupied. The members put gear and a tent at C2's site on 10 November; their Sherpas had gone on ahead of them on the 9th and fixed rope to 6700m, but had slept in C1. On 10 November the members descended to BC to rest. They rested on the 11th. On the 12th a snowstorm all day and night deposited two feet of snow at BC. On the 13th the snowfall was not so heavy, but a strong wind blew up. On the 14th, the whole team went up to C1. Here they found their tent buried under the snow; they dug it out but it was completely squashed and unusable, so back to BC in high wind. Their climb was over. They left BC on the 15th. Sherpas: Da Gelje, 11/2/67, Kurima, Lokhim-9, Solu, no 8000ers Dayula, 21/4/72, Dhodre, Sotang-6, Solu, Everest X2, Makalu X1 |
