Route Notes Just reaching BC was an undertaking: on 10 May they took a bus to Beni, then another bus to Darbang. On the 12th they set out on their trek to BC via the Myagdi Khola, around the west end of Dhaulagiri I to Dhaulagiri BC and French Pass, and north into the Hidden Valley to BC. They established BC on 21 May in Hidden Valley on the west side of Tashi Kang, a 6386m peak southwest of Tsartse. On the 23rd they began searching for the best approach to their intended route on the South Ridge. They stayed in BC during the following few days while they fixed ropes for access to their mountain. On the 26th they finished fixing the face to a col at 6100m. They had reached the Col at 2 pm and decided it was then too late to proceed farther. So back to BC. The next day, the 27th, they rested -- while a warm sun melted the points where they had fixed rope. They decided to abandon the climb and left BC on 29 May. They had been unsuccessful on Tsartse the previous spring, and now they said were leaving the mountain for good. Their trekking route away from BC was down Hidden Valley and across the pass to Marpha on the Kali Gandaki River. Then they took a bus to Beni and other buses to Pokhara and Kathmandu.
