Route Notes 12 June 64 Ang Tsering sirdar, liaison officer Khum Bahadur Kharki. Sunday - Hechtel went to Calcutta yesterday and to SF tomorrow; all others to Bombay by train from Jogbani. Tenzing from Khumjung and Lindner reached Talung summit 11 May. Made no attempt to try Kabru. Delayed return waiting 1 week for porters. Jeske - 19 June 64 Reached base camp 27 April altitude 4600m. To get into Yalung Valley thus Lapsong La 5300m - coolies refused to go over pass. Weather then very good. [dated April 29 runner to Bir and post from deputy leader]. Hechtel - 8 April 64 Dates of base camp and climbing peaks 12-14 days ex-Dharan. Determined to catch up with expedition by time reached 1st base at 14,000 ft. Base to be established by 20th. Advance base at 17,000 ft 2 weeks after base, so by May 1st hope have established advanced base. Probably trying Talung first. Hope be able use some high camps for both peaks. All members new to Himalayas.
