Route Notes BC at southside of Tsho Rolpa (lake) Biv1 at Trakarding Glacier Biv2 at Drolomba Glacier, east side Biv3 at Drolomba Glacier, east side near Khubukam Biv4 on East Face of Takarago High point on East Face 100m below North Ridge. The four member team had no fixed camps above BC, only a series of bivouacs. They made their first bivouac on 26 April and their second one on the 27th. At the second bivouac, Gradzki became sick with stomach trouble and bad throat, so he and Garwolinski descended to BC; Garwolinski said he would rejoin the other two about two days later. On the 28th Jurewicz and Pawlowski went up to 5500m and the next day to 5700m. On the 30th they climbed up to 6000m, left some gear there and returned to their bivouac at 5700m. They now heard by walkie-talkie that there was some problem at BC, but they could not hear the message very well, so they descended to 5200m for better reception. They learned that their two BC staff, a cook and a man to look after the camp, had left. Garwolinski went to the nearest village, Na, west of Tsho Rolpa (lake), and learned that the two men had had a violent fight, throwing rocks at each other, and the cook was injured. Garwolinksi returned to BC, quite tired. On 1 May, and he and Gradzki went to 5200m. But Gradzki was still not well, and the two men abandoned their climb. Jurewicz and Pawlowski were at 5200m on 1 May. There was snowfall the next day, so they stayed in that bivy, but on the 3rd they moved up to 5700m. On the 4th they were plagued by a problem with their stove, which they fixed, and on 5 May, they tried to reach the North Ridge, from which they would go to the summit. They managed to reach 6100m, 100 meters below the ridge, in fog and white-out. This was their high point. They returned to 5700m and next day, the 6th, to 5500m. They checked the weather forecast, which said there would be bad weather for the next three days. They descend to BC on the 7th. They were running out of time; the climb was finished. They left BC on the 9th. Jurewicz and Pawlowski would like to return to Takargo and finish the route they had started on. Perhaps they should come earlier in the spring, as the Americans had, and perhaps approach the mountain from the west instead of from the east.
