Route Notes BC at bottom of East Face beside glacier (just north of point 5110m on Schneider map). Too much snow on very technical climb, very steep. 14 Oct 10 cm snow at Pheriche. 15th teams split in 2 parties to determine whether East Face or North Face better. 1st 200m above BC 200m of artificial climbing. Next 2 days spent trying to surmount tower but impossible and too dangerous to progress with prevailing snow conditions. Snow sticking to rock slabs. 21 Oct 4 climbers went up with supplies for 10 days to top but after 2 days very hard climbing gave up, Gicquel believes (he left BC 23rd). Team wanted to change route but liaison officer refused.
