| Route Notes | The Swiss client, Janik Jaeger, wanted to make an alpine-style climb with no Sherpas. The two climbers did not even establish a BC, but used a lodge in Pangboche village (3985m) as their base. From Pangboche, they went to the bottom of Tawoche's South Pillar on 17 November at 5200m and spent the night there in a tent. On the 18th they moved up a gently sloping section of the pillar to 5400m, where the pillar became really steep (70 degrees). There they turned around and abandoned the climb. Jaeger had a cough, and he was not climbing fast enough. They returned to Pangboche that day. On the 21st they climbed a nearby unnamed peak 5620m to the summit. On the 22nd they left the mountains. |
