| Route Notes | BC south of mountain near snout of Tashi Kang Glacier C1 on Tashi Kang Glacier. The team made their BC on 30 September at 5500m at the snout of the Tashi Kang Glacier, south of the mountain they called Tashikang II. (They said that there are three Tashi Kang peaks clustered together close to the glacier: Tashi Kangs II and III (both 6157m) and Tashi Kang I (6386m) and nearby are an unnamed peak (6403m) and Tsartse (6343m). From their C1 at 5900m on the glacier, they scaled or attempted to scale three mountains: the unnamed peak, Tashikang II and Tsartse. First, on 3 October three members, Aoshima, Chiijiwa and Honda, and two Sherpas, Ngima and Wangche, went north to the unnamed peak. From C1 at 3:00 am, they climbed in "very nice weather" up the face of its SW Ridge to a col at 6000m and thence up the ridge itself to the summit at 9:30 am. They returned to BC at about 3:00 pm. Chijiiwa, Honda and Kaneuji with Ngima, Wangche and De Temba climbed back to C1 and on 6 October they set out for the summit of Tashi Kang II, which was north-northwest of BC. They left C1 at 4:20 am and climbed its SE Ridge, also in excellent weather, were on the top at 7:00 am and back in BC at 11:00 am. Their final goal was Tsartse. They examined it from C1 and did not like what they saw: its northwest side was very steep snow and ice, its west side fragile rock, also very steep. Furthermore they could not see a possible approach route to get to the mountain. They abandoned the idea of climbing Tsartse. Non-summiting members: Maeda joined the push from C1 on 3 October to scale the unnamed peak, but 6400m was very tired and went back to C1; he returned to BC with the summiters. Nakamizo on 2 October, when the team was on the way to establish C1, he reached only 5600m and then had such a pain in his spinal column that he had to be escorted back to BC, where he remained for the rest of the climbing period. Santa, aged 74, stayed in BC the entire time. Sherpas: Da Pinjo, 26/3/89 (13/12/2045), Lokhim-9, no 8000ers Ngima, 23/5/74 (10/2/2031), Gorakhani-4, Solu, Everest X2 Wangche/Ongche/Onjchi, 22/8/83 (6/5/2040), Beding, Everest X2, Manaslu X2, Cho Oyu X1 |
