| Route Notes | BC as same as that for Manaslu C1 at col between P2 and P3. Went six times to C1's col for reconnaissance before making camp there. They did not try for top until received information from KTM HMG's permit granted to climb mountain. 15 May to C1 to go to top: Zagirnyak, Gorbenko, Leontiev and Pugachov and same 4 members for top on 16th. Ridge from Col to top difficult because snow-covered rock knife-edge ridge with some gendarmes; at end of ridge just before top was 80m-wall of rock mixed with ice and at top of wall was knife-edge short ridge. From C1 at 6:00 am to top at 4 pm and returned to C1 9:00 pm and slept there. BC 17th. From BC to C1 snow slope and some snow and ice wall with avalanching. Other Manaslu team members earlier went to Col [for recon of Manaslu] but only these four actually tried to climb Simnang Himal. No others to Simnang Himal (P2) because all others busy with Manaslu. |
