Route Notes BC at Lhotse Shar BC site, east of Island Peak C1 at Lhotse Shar Glacier High point at 6000m at west side of Col. While making route to C2 Bourdais had fatal accident; wanted to put C2 at S Col 96220m) of Ch Polu. On 21st Oct Bourdais was hammering piton for rope-fixing when serac fell and caused avalanche; had seen seracs above but were not moving, did not look threatening. Avalanche carried him 200-300 vertical meters. Perrot had just time see avalanche coming and jump aside; not really injured. Climb finished. Body found and dead of broken head. One night had avalanche at C1 and had to hold tent down (22nd Oct); not safe place to be. Seracs were near Col; big avalanches were coming down Lhotse Shar and these sent wind and snow into C1.
