Route Notes BC at Nanta Khola C1 on glacier C2 on glacier High point at C2. The trip was actually a kind of trek on which all members, climbing Sherpas, kitchen staff and porters moved together on the approach march to BC, up to the team's high point on Saribung, and back to Kagbeni for the return to Kathmandu. Their approach march from Jomsom took them to Lho Montang, a small village named De, Yara, Ghuma Thati, Damodar Kunda, and south to BC on the Nanta Khola. Their intended route on Saribung was the northeast slope, but they did not get onto it. Their BC was established on 24 Aug on the Nanta Khola at 5200m. On the 25th they moved to C1 at 5600m. On the glacier below the slope, and C2 was just two hundred meters higher, still on the glacier on the 26th. On 27th August it started to snow, and they had little more time for the mountain, so they abandoned their attempt to scale Saribung and descended all the way to Damodar Kunda that day. "It is a really an easy mountain -- no crevasses even on the glacier." They had planned to go from the summit to join the trekking route around Annapurna, but deep new snow forced them to return instead to Ghuma Thati, then west to Tange and on to Kagbeni for their bus to Kathmandu, where they arrived at 4:00 am on 1 September. Two members dropped out before the team arrived at BC. Helga Kuehrer developed a serious case of influenza and had to be evacuated from Damodar Kunda by helicopter to Kathmandu on 23 August. Irmgard Heinzl was strong enough to continue the trip, so she also left in the helicopter.
