| Route Notes | Snow and Rock Alpine Club Saribung Expedition 2007 - 20 Nov 2007 This one-woman team approached Saribung from the north, from the lakes called Damodar Kunda southwards to BC. At Damodar Kunda, the porter carrying her load, Antare Rai, had started developing edema, and when he went ahead of Mrs. Sakagami to BC (5300m) on 9 November, he became seriously ill. Mrs. Sakagami arrived at BC on the 10th, but on the way she and Gelu Tshering Sherpa (40 years old from Beni, Solu) and the cook met Rai on his return from BC and saw he was nearly dead. She sent Gelu Tshering down with Rai to get him quickly to where he could receive medical attention while she continued to BC. But she left BC on the 11th: she had abandoned all thought of her climb: "life is more important." She felt she had saved his life. She went slowly with the cook down to Jomsom to return to Kathmandu. |
