Route Notes In his emails Pendl, wrote that the original track to the NE Ridge route was not possible to climb because the glacier has changed too much in 20 years. It was too dangerous because of ice seracs chinks and the glacier missing all the time causing ice pulling down even in the nights. Pendl wrote that they tried to find a way on the moraine's ridge to reach the saddle below the steep part between 5700m and 6300m. Due to loose rocks it was not safe enough. The steep part was something like a groove 20 years ago as we saw on the photo of the first climber. This year there were huge ice-balconies. Because of this situation plus limited time and the heavy wind speeds between 80 and 100 km/h on the ridge, we decided not to risk our lives and finally abandoned.
