Route Notes The Austrians expected to leave C3 at 2 am on 18 May for the summit. But a strong wind was blowing. They waited until 5:00 am; when the wind did not abate, they abandoned the climb. Instead of moving up, they descended all the way to BC that day and left BC in a helicopter for Kathmandu the next day. There were two Nepalis with them in their summit party, Norbu and Pemba Tamang, brothers. When the Austrians abandoned their climb, the brothers went down to BC with them; then the Austrians left on the 19th, the brothers climbed up to C3 of the Dutch team led by Alex Bijlsma, arrived at their C3 on the 20th, and joined them in their successful summit bid on 21 May.
