Route Notes BC 18/11 4450m (Thorung Phedi lodge) C1 21/11 5100m C2 23/11 5450m C3 29/11 5850m Smt 30/11 by both members at about 1 pm. Route: W Face from SW flank and NW glacier. Ascent done in pure alpine-style. Acclimatization was made while searching for the better/easier route solution to reach the summit. 30/11: Started from C3. From the upper NW glacier, the duet chose to traverse the peak's W Face. Up via a col then the NW Ridge; down via the SW Ridge, then before reaching p.6335m, down via the W Race. Summit altitude measurements: 2 measurements using a Garmin swatch (altitude based on pressure) showed 6480m and 6430m. 1 measurement using an Inreach device (altitude based on coordinates) showed 6515m. German Wikipedia mentions 6485m. Both members think it's correct, like circa 6480-6485m. Route's resume on Purbung: Alpine PD+ (2 in rock grade, 2 in ice grade), stamina/endurance, complicated/elaborate route (not obvious at all from Thorung Phedi). Some scramble (up to grade 2 in rock) from 5000m to 5200m. Some ice technics (grade 2) in the icefall from 5400m to 5500m. Summit went to be surprisingly steeper than expected, with sections at 70° avoided by snow sections up to 50° maximum. 01/12: as Scheidtweiler was resting in C3 in the morning, Kobusch went for a quick roundtrip to the nearby top of Purkhung (PURK, 6126m), getting up to the top in 1:10 and down in 20 minutes. Route used was the SE Ridge, apparently unclimbed. 02/12: left BC and to Besishahar the next day.
