Route Notes BC at higher normal site C1 at normal site High point at north rounded face. Habeler to go to top on 30th but reached only 6000m because wind had blown a lot of snow saddle here. Down to BC same day - rest in BC. 1 Nov 4:00 am Habeler alone from BC to try for top again, reached C2 of Joe Simpson group at 6:00 am, got to saddle just after 9:00 am, but big avalanche had cleared snow from much of snow but not all of it; had to go around to north but deep snow here too; had to stop below top in this very deep snow because simply could not go further in deep soft snow and no safe way around it, so down to BC 1:15 pm. Should perhaps have descended some distance and gone around to the south, but time restriction discouraged this. Schluga went to C1 on 29 Oct and down to BC on 30th.
