Route Notes BC above Gorak Shep C1 on SE Face C2 on SW Ridge C3 on SW Ridge. C1 and C2 all snow and ice, very steep, very difficult. C2 and C3 difficult rock saw-tooth ridge. C3 to summit not difficult. Summit day: started 4 am, on top 1:45 pm when reported very tired, had moved very slowly and by now clouding over. Stayed on top 40 minutes; descended slowly, clouds in and out, lost radio contact 4:40 pm, when were in C3 and well but very tired. During night Kang heard avalanche. 13th no movements on mountain and 14th Kang and Ang Tshering went up to see what happened because summit past, should have reached BC. Reached C3 on 14th and found C3 site completely empty except for one left-hand glove lying on snow. C3 site had not been chosen carefully. Ministry of Tourism - 18 May 4 summiters of 12 May missing: 1) leader Seong 2) Yeong-Deok Seo 3) Baek-Gyoen Kim 4) Bhakta Boh Rai LO's report: 3 members and 1 Nepalese summited on 12 May and were suppose to stay overnight at C3 6800m. BC members saw the summiters coming slow and had walkie-talkie contact with them at 4:45 pm 12 May (above C3) the last contact. Summiters said they would reach BC 13 May. Since no further contact from summiters and they did not return to BC on 13, Jong Sam-Kang and sirdar Ang Tshering Sherpa went to C3 on 14th to see them. No trace of anybody, no tent, only one pair of gloves found lying there. It appeared that a big avalanche swept all of them. Bodies could not be found.
Accidents Kwon altitude sickness; Kang Seak-Gyu altitude sickness (headaches), only briefly to C1
