Route Notes From Adrian Hayes Instagram account: Apr 23: After a few days’ rest at Everest Base Camp, heading up Pumori tomorrow on first rotation - up to Camp 1 to sleep the night, touch Camp 2 the following day and back to BC. Moderate snowfall the last few days have made to climb a bit slower / tricker but fingers crossed for a sound rotation. Picture shows approx route and camps - High Camp: 5600m, Camp 1: 6200m, Camp 3: 6500m. Apr 27: Planned rotation to Camp 1 on Pumori stalled by poor weather and conditions a few days ago, thus turned back at 5950 metres. Stayed the night at High Camp (5600m) and afforded a superb view over the Khumbu. Now at Base Camp waiting for the all important weather window. May 5: After a month in Nepal Pumori final summit push starts today… Heading up to High Camp this afternoon; tomorrow a long climb to Camp 2, as Camp 1 somewhat unstable; and a summit attempt on Sunday. Some vertical Seracs to climb before Camp 2 and, from pictures, a lot of crevasses up to the summit seem to be the main challenge, but we have a strong team and a good weather window the next few days so fingers crossed. Alas no Coronation viewing for us but will fly a Union Jack tomorrow. May 8: Pumori 2023 expedition abandoned yesterday at 6600m after an avalanche the last few days had buried 400m of rope stashed at Camp 2 needed for the final sunmit ridge. Despite that, accorded the most spectacular and unique views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and surrounding giants in Nepal and Tibet. The 1300m climb up to Camp 2 showed just why Pumori is rarely summited and considered way harder than Everest - deep snow, blue ice, very technical and very steep, including three overhanging ice walls. Now safely back at Base Camp, many thanks for all the comments, likes and support. ‘The mountains will always be there; the trick is to make sure you are too!’
