| Route Notes | The two-member team established no BC for Pumori, but began their bid to climb the mountain's West Face from Gorak Shep, near the foot of the mountain. On 16 Oct, when they were at 5900m on the glacier below the face, they saw that it was heavily crevassed ahead of them. They immediately abandoned their climb and left Gorak Shep two days later. They had intended to go to Ama Dablam and Cholatse from Pumori, and to climb Ama Dablam by an uncommon route from the south-southwest. But they had heard and seen that there was too much snow on Ama Dablam, so on the 20th Jasper decided to go home (he had no interest in Ama Dablam's normal route) while Treppte went directly to Ama Dablam and joined two other Germans, Felix Berktold and Christian Kohler, on the SW Ridge route. Treppte arrived at Ama Dablam BC that day, the 20th, slept in C1 on the 22nd, and followed the same pattern as Berktold and Kohler; he returned to BC on the 23rd, went back to C1 on the 24th and summited with them at 1:00 pm on the 25th. Treppte did not then attempt Cholatse since his climbing partner was already in Germany and Treppte did not want to try it alone. |
