Adventure Peaks South Ridge Pumori Expedition led by Dave Kenyan - 21 Nov 2008 Kenyon came to Nepal well before the members to lead a group on a trekking peak. This expedition was originally scheduled to climb Ama Dablam, but Kenyon's report about the continuing avalanching there led to the decision that, according to Adventure Peaks' website, "due to the unacceptable levels of objective danger on Ama Dablam this year," their goal was switched from Ama Dablam to Pumori two days before the members' arrival in Kathmandu. One member, Green left the expedition very early; he arrived at BC with the team, but had a chest infection, didn't go above BC and left two days after having reached BC. Unfortunately, all the remaing climbers except Kenyon, Newton and Timms also had bad coughs and chest infections, and by the time all members were down in BC on the 11th, they decided to abandon the climb because of their mild illnesses, fatigue and no desire to go back up for a summit bid with the current unstable snow conditions making it impossible to fix snow anchors. Besides, they had only four more days left in their climbing period. They left BC on the 14th, and all seven remaining members plus Phurbu Sherpa summited Island Peak on the 15th before flying to Kathmandu on the 20th. Fixed rope: 800m between ABC & C1.
