Route Notes BC at normal site ABC at South Face C1 at start of SW Ridge (not occupied). At C1 site got walkie-talkie message from member in BC, who saw four Sherpas on normal route of SE Face hit by falling ice seracs; thus Sherpas did not want to continue and also saw above snow overhanging route at 6200m and above that would have to go over onto north side and bad snow there. So C1 not occupied and down to BC. 15th carried Sherpa's body down to helicopter landing site (Sherpas of another expedition on SE Face). Binder and Kieffer arrived BC 13 Oct and went to ABC only. Sherpas were: Cheddar Sherpa, Dec 62, Makalu, Everest X2 Singi Lama, 22/10/69, Kulu, Sindhupalchowk Changba Sherpa, 1966-67, Taksindu, Solu
Accidents Kieffer had bronchitis/pneumonia
