Route Notes On 14 Oct Singhi Lama slipped at 5 pm just above C1 at 6200m and fell for about 400m down the steep slope (top section about 70 degrees). He then tumbled onto the glacier and stopped at about 5800m. He was on fixed rope when he slipped but the bottom fixed point came out and his carabiner slipped through. Kazi, Chhetra and Stitzinger descended immediately and were with him within 20 minutes. To their surprise Singhi Lama was still alive. They wrapped him up and carried him to ABC, where they arrived at 9 pm. On 15 Oct they built a stretcher and carried him down to the helipad between the two lakes, where he was picked up by a helicopter at 11 am. Singhi Lama was taken to hospital in KTM. He was diagnosed with a broken ankle, a broken wrist and a few broken ribs. After the accident the team stayed at BC for two days to wait for news from the hospital after it was clear that Singhi Lama would be Ok. They climbed back up, but had to abandon climb in the end as they were running out of time. Biederer and Kutter did not climb higher than ABC due to altitude problems. Sherpas: Kazi Sherpa, Sete in Solu, 1971 Chhetra Sherpa, Makalu District, 1970 Singi Lama Sherpa, Helambu (near Sarmatang), 1971
Accidents Singhi Lama tumbled down about 400m on 14 Oct
