| Route Notes | BC at Gorak Shep C1 at bottom of SE Face C2 at top of pillar on SE Face. Team too weak for technical climb on South Ridge and southwest side had open crevasses and ice cover, so went to normal route on SE side. 14 Jan all members started from C2 site 6500m, but at 6300m stopped by 6m wide, deep crevasse opposite 15m higher and overhanging-crevasse. Back to ABC for more food, ice screws and ropes to cross this crevasse and others perhaps above. Then snow started falling on 15th. Down to BC, waited 2 days, weather not improved with strong cold wind and no visibility above 6000m. Left BC 18 Jan because not enough time to make ascent, which required one week. Fixed 700m between ABC and C1. |
