Route Notes BC at Rongbuk Glacier at Chinese Ev BC ABC at 5560m at Everest ABC site. C1 at 5700m lower part of Pumori Glacier on its eastern side C2 at 6050m North Ridge C3 at 6700m North Ridge. Fixed ropes 700m on rocky part from C2 to almost 7000m where steep and unstable rock. Reoccupied C2 on 2 May after period of bad weather (snowing every afternoon). 7 May 0:30 hours Loretan and Oudin started for top in good weather to begin with, but clouded over around 7:00 am; reached top at 1:00 pm in good weather - long, steep and required care because of powder snow above rocky part (all route above C2 to top). 8 May Balmelli, Bignasca, De Luigi and Nottaris's up from C2 to join Loretan in C3 and all 5 to summit together in windy weather; all slept in C2. 11 May to ABC.
