| Route Notes | BC at end of Lhotse Nuptse Glacier High point at base of South Face. Waited for Italians to go for it as they were there first and were well acclimatized. Also problem of LO who did not agree to abide by ministry's oral permission to be on same route as Italians. When LO did get radioed permission from KTM, big snowstorm had hit and snow buried gear at BC and did not consolidate. Went to base of the wall only on about 12th Oct, saw clouds coming and retreated to wait a couple of days for expected minor storm to pass (Yoder). Actually Newson and Yoder were not a good team. Yoder got various ailments because he didn't like the climb he found himself faced with. If both had been well motivated, they could have done the climb. |
