Route Notes Mosedale, Jay Whiting, Steve Graham, Dawa Tenji Sherpa, Dawa Phurten Bhote, Pemba Chirri Sherpa ended up at the right-hand end of the summit ridge and it was too late, too slow to get there, not enough oxygen and energy to safely continue. Breaking trail took us longer to climb and sapped energy levels. Other than that there was also bullet hard ice to deal with and freshly covered ropes. Left BC on 22/05 by heli to Ktm. Oxygen: Mosedale members used from C3 to high pt to C3. Mosedale Sherpas used from 7500m to high pt to 7500m. Garrett Madison, his clients Chase Merriman and Becks Ferry with Aang Phurba reached the same altitude as Mosedale at around 1 pm. According to Ferry, they ran out of equipment to safely fix the final snow cornice. Also, looking at the ridge, it appeared dangerous to attempt to cross it for an extra few metres. "Nuptse is an absolute gem of a climb. It is quiet and feels remote despite its proximity to Everest. It is unrelentingly steep with a mixed terrain of climbing. Steep snow slopes. Ice and mixed rocks. It’s a more technical mountain - more so than any of the 8000m." Oxygen: Madison members used from C3 to high pt to C3. Ang Phurba Sherpa used from 7820m and in descent.
