They had already fixed rope to 7500m from 12/05 to 14/05. Like before, the footprints were gone and the ropes were buried or partially buried due to spin drift and/or new snow. When they reached the high point at 5:30 pm they decided that they would have little chance to reach the summit and get down safely again, so they abandoned the expedition and descended to C3, where they arrived at 6:45 pm. On 22/05 they went to C2. Mosedale was intending to do the ‘Triple Crown’ and go to Nuptse, Everest and Lhotse. However, as he and Dorje had spent all their energy on Nuptse and trying to get up, they decided to abandon the rest of the plan. Climb abandoned on 21/05 due to too much snow, route too hard. Mosedale left BC on 23/05 by heli to Lukla. Fixed rope: 1200m Oxygen: Taken and used from [?] Sherpa: Dorjee Gyalzen, Pangboche, 16/07/1992 |
