Route Notes Bozart and Chapelle - 26 Oct 82 Nepal-Belgium Ngojumba Kang BC 23 Sept - 5200m ABC 26 Sept - 5400m C1 2 Oct - 5800m C2 6 Oct - 6400m C3 8 Oct - 6750m-6800m BC northeast of lake above Donag Lhaftshan (same as Cho Oyu BC site). From BC went into Ngojumba Glacier and then northeast of point 5420 to ABC C1 is north of point in Lungsampa above point 6073m C2 is near point 6515m C3 is near 6800m couloir line above "N" of Ngojumpa Glacier went up to 7000m couloir line on glacier to right towards -- on map. At 7000m on 13 Oct. Then gave up: very long route and much deeps soft snow, too tiring. C3 too far from summit would take 20 hours to reach top, but no tent and little food for C4. Sherpas were not climbers (only porters) and they went down from C3 and went to C3 only 1 time. Could not climb without fixed rope. 7000m reached by 4 members by Bogaert, Cousteix, Favre and Delafosse on 13 Oct. No accidents, frostbite. Need 5 camps above BC on this route and may be skis or snowshoes for long snow 14 kms BC to base of face at 7200m All 6 arrived yesterday from Lukla Shyam, Tourism - 22 Oct 82 French-Belgium-Nepal Ngojumba Kang South and SE Face Abandoned because heavy snowfall says message from LO of 19 Oct from Namche. Cousteix & Michaud - 29 March 82 2 arrived 29 Aug 4 arrrived 5 Sept; total 6 Belgian-French members Leave KTM 8 and Sept by road and arrive BC after about 20 days Joint Nepal-French-Belgium Ngojumba Expedition Route also South Face - reach summit ridge via a pillar ending east of highest summit. BC at 5200-5300m east of point 5420m on Schneider map on Ngojumba Glacier 3 camps above BC C3 at 7000m BC end Sept, summit about 25 Oct 3 Sherpas = [nominal] members (only Sherpas above BC) 2 medical oxygen only
