| Route Notes | Richardson and Spooner started from C1 on 28 April at 3:40 am, reached the summit at 11:30 am, stayed about 20 minutes, then descended back to C1 where they arrived at 2:30 pm. Richardson, Spooner and Jenkins were at high camp, however, Jenkins decided not to go for the summit due to mild AMS. Weather good, dry conditions. Fairly benign glacier. Team was roped up. Not many crevasses visible. They headed towards northwest and then gained the North Ridge. Just below the summit pyramid (100m) they came across a big bergschrund. There were fixed ropes left from Ade Summers expedition in autumn 2015. After the bergschrund it was very icy and the summit ridge was covered in hard blue ice. About 40 degrees. They climbed alpine style using ice screws. Lynch, Singleton and Isbister went to Dhampus Peak and reached 5100m in Hidden Valley. All three of them had trouble acclimatizing and decided to stay down in Hidden Valley. Fixed rope: About 200m on the snow and ice ramp just above the glacier at 5700m. |
