| Route Notes | BC at moraine on northern side of Jannu Glacier C1 on rock on very day Merra Glacier area C2 on Merra Glacier. The climbing route followed by Dorn was essentially the same as that of the French autumn 2007 team led by Vincent Palandre: South Face of the central (main) summit's East Ridge to the East Ridge. All the climbing was done by only Dorn and Pasang Phutar; when they reached BC, Prudhomme had a bad headache and congested nasal passages making breathing difficult. As Dorn and Pasang Phutar set off on their climb on 1 November, she retreated to Kangbachen village, where their trekking guide, porters and cook were camped. The climbers found it difficult to find a good site for C2 on the Merra Glacier, which had many crevasses and where the snow was very soft. Dorn and Pasang Phutar left C2 for the top at 4:54 am on 3 November, summited at 8:00 am, and were back in C2 at 11:30 am. On this day's climb, again the snow was very soft, but the weather was excellent: no wind, no clouds, and not very cold (minus 10 degrees Celcius at the start, but warm sunshine later, and only light gloves necessary on the summit). On 4 November, Dorn and Pasang Phutar descended through BC all the way to Kangbachen village to join the rest of the party who camped there. They trekked back to Taplejung and took a bus to Kathmandu. Sherpa: Pasang Phutar/Futar, 8/7/61, Yaphu, Yaphu-9, Makalu-Barun, Cho Oyu X2, Everest X1 |
