Route Notes BC at above normal site high BC C3 at plateau's edge. Tried for summit 3 times and only 3rd attempt successful. Strong winds, cold and snow deep prevented early success. Lasa slow to leave C3, waiting for sun, and ascended to top with 3 Slovakians (on top with Slovakian leader, other two later). Basque Mountaineer h]Has Important Success by Elizabeth Hawley When the leader of a climbing team of four men from the summit of the world's eight highest Oyarzabal, reached the summit of the world's highest mountain, Mt Manaslu in the Nepalese Himalaya, on Oct 8 with all of his teammates, he became the first Basque and first person of Spanish nationality to have summited as many as eleven great mountains that tower more than 8000 meters above the seas, and only the eighth climber of any nationality to have achieved this momentous goal. Oyarzabal told Reuters here soon after his return from his climb that "the winds were terrible, and it was very cold."
