Route Notes BC next to South Koreans C1 slightly higher than Naike Col, up a bit of steep rock C3 just before North Col. 24th Sept summit bid from C3 by Brown, Chase & Indra Gurung and got to 24,800 ft (7560m) by Brown (just below plateau) while other 2 stopped shortly after leaving camp because Italians turned up without gear looking for their much higher camp; very windy that day. Brown coughing blood from pneumonia he was developing. 2nd summit bid on 1st Oct from C4 by Indra Gurung and Ang Kami Sherpa. Chase had dropped out below C3 while 2 Nepalis established C4 and tried for top on 1st when got 100m below summit. They were having altitude sickness (headache, vomiting) and finally turned back. Then no one strong enough to mount another summit bid immediately and members had to leave Nepal on 21st and 2 members had just climbed Manaslu N. 1st Oct Powter and Tucker went from C3 to higher (southern). Manaslu North Peak: fairly steep snow, knife-edge ridge, heavily corniced on east side; left C3 8:30 am, on top at about 11:30 am and back at Polish-Italian C3 at 1 pm, own C3 at 1:30 and C2 to sleep and to help 2 Nepalis descend to C2 from between C4 and C3.
Accidents Brown pneumonia; 2 Nepalis altitude sickness
