| Route Notes | BC at 2-1/2 hours from Samagaon at start of East Ridge C2 on East Ridge after having climbed couloir C3 on end of East Ridge at glacier and below big rock pinnacle High point at west side of pinnacle. Route BC to C1 on north side of E Ridge (BC also north of E Ridge). Big snowstorm of 19th Oct dumped 1.20m snow on BC. 28th Oct Ichigi Kudo died at BC of presumed apoplexy: while eating supper, suddenly fell over and became unconscious. All members came down to BC and decided continuation of climb above C3 very difficult. Had planned ascent of pinnacle; after start climb, thought to go to west side of it but still rock and ice climb here very difficult. So decided not to continue after accident, not enough time with sudden death of Kodo. This route is possible: 50-50 chance of success without Kodo's death. |
| Accidents | Only Kudo's death; Kamiharako could not acclimatize so he and Kiyokawa left expedition |
