Route Notes BC southwest from Samagaon 3 km away (same as Austrian 1985 spring) C1 on East Ridge C2 on East Ridge C3 on East Ridge. After 4th Oct many days much snow. C3 covered by 2 meters snow. 8th Oct when climbers returned there to try going to C4 site. Took them 4 days including 1 bivouac to descend to BC. Then route making pair set off from BC on 16th Oct for 20-21 Oct summit bid by another pair. They reached C1 on 16th but snowfall 17-20 Oct and took 4 hours to excavate C2 on 17th Oct. Leader descended on 19th Oct. Impossible to reach summit and called route making party down to BC where they arrived 20th Oct. Left BC 22nd Oct. "Want to try again next spring."
Accidents Sept 26 one Sherpa knee injured in snowslide in steep couloir halfway from BC to C1 (sent to Kathmandu hospital)
